Description

This itinerary takes us from the woods of Garessio of the Tanaro Valley to the Ligurian coastline of Laigueglia and Alassio passing through Colle San Bernardo. In 1951, Alassio was the arrival point of the 2nd stage of the Giro d’Italia won by Antonio Bevilacqua.
From 1979 to 1997 it was the arrival point of the Nizza-Alassio stage.

Schedule

Day 1

- Check-in to 3* Hotel in Garessio.
- Afternoon at leisure to discover the
most fascinating places of the area. The municipal territory is divided by the
Po Valley-Ligurian watershed of the Alps, divided by Colle San Bernardo. It is possible to visit the historic centre, divided into three hamlets: Ponte the oldest of the city, Poggiolo and Maggiore. Beyond Colle di Casotti rises the homonymous holiday and hunting castle of the Savoy family which developed over the site of a Carthusian monastery of the 12th century, one of the first in Italy, founded by Saint Bruno. The construction was transformed into a castle with Kings Charles Albert and Victor Emmanuel II, great hunting enthusiasts. Many writers including Gozzano, Calvino and Guareschi were guests there. Piedmontese composure meets Ligurian character, giving way to an interesting blend of sea and mountain village.
-Dinner at a restaurant where the menu offers typical Piedmontese cuisine.
