The Giro d’Italia covered this route in 2019, the 13th stage Pinerolo - Ceresole Reale climbing from Viù. Susa has been a city of many arrivals and departures of the Giro d’Italia. The last one in 2018, with departure for Cervinia.
Program
Day 1
- Check in to 4* star Hotel in Borgaro Torinese
- Afternoon at leisure to discover the most fascinating sites of the area which must include a visit to one of the best-known residences of the Royal House of Savoy, the majestic Reggia di Venaria. Venaria Reale is a masterpiece of architecture and landscape, declared UNESCO world heritage site. It will be a pleasure to walk among the masterpieces, its Gardens and the Castle of the Mandria with its
Old Town Center.
- Dinner at a restaurant on Via Mensa, where the menu offers traditional
regional
cuisine.
- Return to hotel and accommodation.
Day 2
-Rich breakfast in hotel
-Day focused on our STAGE 7 among the Alpine Valleys closest to
Turin
Ride, eat and drink climbing back up the Lanzo Valleys followed by a long downhill section towards Col del Lys and Susa,
on the roads of the Giro in the shade of Saint Michael’s Abbey, symbol of Piedmont.
The 75 km route with an altitude difference of 1,291 m starts from the centre of Lanzo Torinese, heading for Germagnano. Outside the centre we follow the directions for val di Viù. The road tends
to climb immediately with several flat sections to the town. A slightly downhill stretch
to Versino, left turn and the climb of Col del Lys starts, 13.5 km with an average gradient
of 4.3%. The long descent leads to Valle Susa, passing through Rubiana we arrive to Sant'Ambrogio of Turin. A right turn in the direction of Susa where the road climbs slightly
but with gentle slopes and ridable. We cross the villages of Sant'Antonino di Susa and San Giorio di Susa. After 10 km slightly uphill, we reach the centre of Susa
-Return to hotel, dinner at leisure and overnight accommodation.
Day 3
- Breakfast in hotel and checkout
A visit to the majestic St. Michael's Abbey, one of the symbols of Piedmont, is a
must.
It is an ancient abbey built between 938 and 987 on the top of Mount
Pirchiriano, just 40km from Turin. Recognised symbol monument of the Piedmont Region, it also inspired
the author Umberto Eco to write the bestseller "Il nome della Rosa".
From the top of its towers, you can admire the capital of Piedmont and a
breathtaking view
of the Susa
Valley.
